origami

two cups of wealth, originally uploaded by McBeth.

I'm learning how to make origami to remember my Grandfather, who died in January of 2002.

These two cups were created by using one of my grandfather's canceled checks - this one written on May 1, 1995 to Oneota Housing in the amount of $170.00.

What a unique and clever idea to make an origami cup out of your grandfather's check. Is his signature on it what gave you the idea?

Mm. Well, not exactly his signature. It was my mother's best intentions (at giving away my grandparent's minutia and that process gone slightly weird) that has me wondering about what's important and what's not. And about wealth.

I'm only at the very beginning of this idea I have and therefore am not certain about how/what this will all look when it is done.

I'm envisioning a mobile of these cups - and maybe a few other oragami creatures that speak to me about family and relationships and stories.

Have you ever used such small paper? The cups aren't difficult but I can't imagine a crane!
