winter shadows

lost child, originally uploaded by McBeth.

Look round and round upon this bare bleak plain, and see even here, upon a winter's day, how beautiful the shadows are! Alas! it is the nature of their kind to be so. The loveliest things in life, Tom, are but shadows; and they come and go, and change and fade away, as rapidly as these!

Thanks for admitting that; it frightens me also. Obviously, that didn't daunt me enough to post it, I guess, to see if I can come to terms with the creepiness factor.

The thing that kept me from ditching out on my attempt to make something worthwhile out of it was that I kept reminding myself 'snow drift. yard statue. snow drift. yard statue. digital tweaking. yard statue'.

I mean, I still *see* a somewhat disturbing image of (what my brain tells me is) a child being smothered in a sand dune. And when I feel panicked about that I remind myself again, 'snow. statuette. tweaking'.
