I understand why they have a sign like that. In my neighborhood some folks sell Christmas trees. My little dog always loves to go to the bathroom on them. I guess they have the most nature-y scent around, as I live in the city.

I think I love your dog. : )

I also live in a fair sized metropolitan city with lots of happy pets and pet owners. Unfortunately for everyone, a lot of critters get dragged to the farmer's markets, to art fairs, to food festivals, to ethnic festivals ... just everywhere. The dogs get freaked out, the people who accidentally step on paws feel bad, and the owners cannot fathom why anyone wouldn't take their dogs to all these places where pets really just don't belong. That's a hard one, isn't it?

As for this sign, it was posted at a (Christmas) tree farm just outside of Madison WI. I thought the farm owners found a brilliant (cheerful!) way to communicate their wishes and to encourage pet owners to be practical in their estimations of 'where is a dog-appropriate scene'.
